For Al-Doe, not only being from the Bronx but also being Hispanic is important to him as a rapper because of what he sees as a scarcity of successful Latino rappers, despite their influence on the hip hop community. “Being Hispanic in hip-hop makes me work that much harder,” he says, “A lot of Spanish artists don’t get the proper recognition they deserve.” In that way, growing up in a Puerto Rican household in the Bronx helped Al-Doe as an artist and a person.
